SUB-PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY-I
TOPIC- RADIO-PHARMACEUTICALS
ADVANCEMENT OF CANCER TREATMENT BY -DR . SUNIL GUPTA.

Radio-pharmaceuticals are the pharmaceutical preparations used in the medicine these are the chemical agents are used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Q.1 HOW RADIO PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCES RADIATIONS??ANS-Theses are chemical agents having incomplete octate therefore they are unstable molecules and responsible for production of radiations.generally these are isotopes.
Q.2 HOW THESE RADIATIONS USED IN THE TREATMENT OF DISEASES ??
ANS-The radiations emits from the unstable molecules used in the treatment of diseases like cancer. when these radiations come in contact with cancer cells produces free radicals like H*,O* these free radicals then form very toxic compounds like hydrogen peroxide H2O2 .these toxic compounds stop protein synthesis in the cancer cells and causes the tissue necrosis
Q.3 EXAMPLES OF RADIO-PHARMACEUTICALS??
ANS- Radio-pharmaceuticals uses may be divided in to TWO categories.A.FOR DIAGNOSIS.
ANS- Radio-pharmaceuticals uses may be divided in to TWO categories.A.FOR DIAGNOSIS.
1. Iodine-131 (131I)- This radioisotope is used for the diagnosis/identification of thyroid function test.
2.COBALT-60- This radioisotope also used for the identification on various types of cancer.cobalt-60 is used in the body to help absorb and process vitamin B12.
